Confederacy, 1861, 10¢ dark blue, Paterson, irregular margins at sides touching design, tied by "Richmond, Va., Feb 3, 1863" cds on overpaid drop cover addressed to Dr. Thomas P. Shields, Richmond with endorsement "Kindness, Mr. Saml Booken", reverse struck with "Advertised 2" fancy oval handstamp and second strike of "Richmond Va., Feb 6, 1863" cds; flap tear affecting cds, F.-V.F. and scarce.

Confederacy, 1861, 10¢ dark blue, close to large margins, clear impression, tied by "Thomasville Ga, Oct 25" cds on orange buff cover addressed to Col. W.D. Mitchel at Savannah Ga.; small faults, Very Fine, a late use of the 10¢ blue stamp.
Scott No. 2b    Estimate $200 - 300.

Lt. Col. Mitchell was wounded in the Battle of Chickamauga and taken to Savannah to recuperate. He was promoted to Col. for bravery at Chickamauga.
