Lot 1559    

1851, 1¢ blue, type Ib, position 8R1E, full o.g. (cert. calls disturbed which is far to harsh), margins full to a bit in at left, rich bold color and strong detailed impression, Fine and attractive, a search of the P.F. Certificate Search reveals only two original gum examples - one which is cut into on three sides (heavily at top) and another faulty example; with 2017 P.S.E. certificate.

ONE OF THE FINEST SOUND ORIGINAL GUM EXAMPLES OF THE RARE 1851 1¢ TYPE IB FROM DESIRABLE POSITION 8R1E.

Type Ib was produced only as an imperforate stamp. Only six positions on Plate 1 Early are Type Ib: Positions 3-6R and 8-9R. Type Ib is distinguished by showing complete design at top and nearly complete design at bottom. All Type Ib stamps are very scarce, and the two best examples (8R offered here and 6R) are rare.

1851, 1¢ blue, type Ib, position 4R1E, Cincinnati, O. town cancel, margins large to just shaving the upper scroll at left, bright distinctive plate one early color, Very Fine; with 2009 P.S.E. certificate (Graded VF 80, SMQ $8,750).

A HANDSOME SOUND USED EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 1851 1¢ TYPE IB.

The type 1b issues were only produced from the early state of plate one. Six positions at the top of the right plate, positions 3R-6R and 8R-9R, furnished all of these issues.
