Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ light blue, De La Rue printing, horizontal pair, large margins to just in at right, tied by Jackson, Miss., Aug. 21 cds on cover addressed to "Asst. Surgeon Chas. M. Morfit CSN, Care Capt. Clarence Morfit CSN", light horiz bend affecting pair, F.-V.F.

Charles M. Morfit, was born in Maryland. Appointed from Maryland. Assistant surgeon, June 10, 1861. Assistant surgeon, October 23, 1862, to rank from October 2, 1862. Assistant surgeon Provisional Navy, June 2, 1864. He served on CSS Ram "Arkansas", 1862. Special duty, 1862-63. Captured on CSS "Oconee" by USS "Madgie", August 20, 1863, near Savannah; transferred from Fort McHenry to City Point, Va., for exchange, November 21, 1863. CSS Albemarle, 1864.
