Although J.C. Truman had begun an express in 1861, he took in a partner, Mr. Chapman in 1864. They operated between San Francisco and San Jose, with a messenger on the San Francisco & San Jose R.R., their operation was extended down the coast to Santa Cruz and Watsonville. The partnership was dissolved in January 1865 and this use of the frank is during the Truman & Co's Express period.

James Christopher Truman carried on the express operation as Truman & Co. after Chapman withdrew in early 1865. Truman & Co's Express operated over the same route between San Jose and San Francisco. By 1869, Wells Fargo had gained control over all of the express business of this route.
