Postal Card, 1879, 2¢ blue on buff, "Specimen", two issued cards with printed "SPECIMEN" 20 x 2.5 mm in black over the stamp and matching "SPECIMEN" 35 x 3.75 mm in a rectangle of squares set diagonally with end ornaments 55 x 10 mm, one is noted as "Clean Plate" showing sharp detailed impression and second as "Dirty Plate" with heavier inking, Very Fine exhibit pair. Lot 1060    

Postal Card, 1886, 1¢ black on salmon pink, mint card; hinge marks and minor creases, otherwise Very Fine, scarce and attractive variety. USPCC No. unlisted.
Scott No. UX9d    $2,000.

The USPCC does not recognize these as error cards even though the printing of the design is genuine. It seems the salmon pink stock was used as a counting marker for counting finished piles of 500 printed sheets. Footnoted in 2010 USPCC on page 9.

ONE OF ONLY FIVE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE 1¢ 1886 POSTAL CARD DOUBLE IMPRESSION ERROR.

Of the five recorded examples, there are three mint cards, one unused with pre-printed advertising, and one used.

Postal Card, 1891, 1¢ dim dark red on light buff card, die essay, die on 155 x 95mm light buff cardstock with S12 inscription die lacking "Postal Card One Cent" at top, reverse with "C.C.W. 2" printed vertically at left, Very Fine and only recorded example of this color. Scott No. UX10E.
