1861, 12¢ black, neat grid cancel, exceptional centering within large well balanced margins, deep color and proof-like impression, Extremely Fine to Superb, a wonderful used gem, with only twelve examples graded higher; with 1983 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates, the latter Graded (XF-SUP 95, SMQ $750).

1861, 24¢ steel blue, red grid cancel, rich distinctive color, choice centering within well balanced margins, Extremely Fine and attractive, a wonderful used stamp bearing a complimentary color cancellation; with 1992 P.S.E. and 1993 P.F. certificates.

1862, 24¢ pale gray violet, on thin paper, grid cancel, rich true pale gray violet color, wide margins, Extremely Fine, a lovely sound example of this very elusive and often faulty stamp, this being one of two to share this grade with only one graded higher (95); with 1985 P.F. and 2002 P.S.E. certificates, the latter Graded (XF 90, SMQ $6,000).

1861, 30¢ orange, used with 10¢ green (68), tied by "Mobile Ala., Oct 1" duplex on buff cover to Sweden, red "N. York Am. Pkt., Paid, Oct 14" exchange cds and matching "15" cent credit handstamp, carried by Inman Line City of Washington from New York Oct. 14th to Queenstown arriving Oct. 24th, partial blue "Aachen France" framed transit, blue crayon "f 2½" rating on reverse, Swedish (10.29.1865) arrival backstamp, Very Fine, ex-Myerson.

This cover was prepaid for the 40¢ Prussian Closed Mail rate that was recently reduced to 36¢ on Jun. 1st 1865, effective for only five months to Oct. 31st, 1865.

1861, 90¢ blue, Boston large "Paid" in grid cancel, beautifully centered with large margins all around, rich color enhancing a crisp detailed impression, Extremely Fine to Superb, with only six examples graded higher; with 2001 and 2004 P.S.E. certificates, the latter Graded (XF-Sup 95, SMQ $4,000).

1863, 2¢ black, tied by "Station A, Philada., Jun 13, 1st, '67" station carrier cds on orange cover to local street address with illustrated Soldiers' and Sailors' Home woodcut Sanitary Fair design of veteran in bed, doctor in attendance, wife and children at bedside, flanked by amputees on crutches, Very Fine and rare design, Kantor design illustrated on page 267.; with 2018 P.F. certificate.

AN EXCEPTIONAL SOLDIER'S AND SAILORS' HOME SANITARY FAIR ILLUSTRATED ENVELOPE, THE ONLY EXAMPLE WE HAVE RECORDED WITH THE 2¢ BLACK JACK ISSUE.

The Soldier's and Sailors' Home held a fair in Philadelphia Oct. 23rd to Nov. 4th 1865. In addition to the small size design offered here, there were two large size versions produced. This is the only example we have seen bearing the 2¢ Black Jack.

1862, 5¢ red brown, light red town cancels, rich vibrant color, exceptional centering with design clear of perfs, Extremely Fine and choice, a striking used stamp, with only six graded higher in the grade of 95; with 200 P.F. and 2004 P.S.E. certificates, the latter Graded (XF 90, SMQ $1,175).
