(Carrier Fee) Philadelphia Pa. Apr. 22, 1861, octagonal datestamp ties 1¢ blue, type IIIa (22), plate 11, B relief, used with 5¢ brown (29), both tied by grid cancels and "Philadelphia Br. Pkt. Apr 22" exchange office cds on blue tissue cover to Spezia, Sardinia, carried by Cunard Line Persia from New York Apr. 25th to Queenstown arriving May 4th, Calais (5.6) transit and "GB/1F60c" Anglo-French accountancy boxed handstamp, manuscript "10" due marking, Very Fine, ex-Gibson, Neinken, Wagshal.
Estimate    $2,000 - 3,000.

THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE 5¢ BRITISH OPEN MAIL RATE TO SPAIN WITH THE ADDITIONAL 1¢ CARRIER FEE PREPAID.

The 1¢ Type IIIa stamp pays the carrier fee and the 5¢ pays the British open mail rate. This cover was the subject of an article by Neinken and Starnes (Chronicle 124, pp. 276-277).

(Inbound Carrier Fee) "Frederica Ga, 25 Novr", manuscript postmark on cover bearing 1¢ blue (24) with left part imprint selvage, position 51L10, and 3¢ dull red (26), each tied by neat circular grid cancel on cover to Philadelphia Pa., Very Fine and scarce "From the Mails" carrier use; with 2011 P.F. certificate.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The 1¢ paid for delivery to the street address in Philadelphia "from the mails".

(Inbound Carrier Fee) Freeport Ill. Feb 12, 1861, cds on cover bearing 1¢ blue (24), dot on head variety and 3¢ dull red (26), each canceled by matching circular grid to Philadelphia street address; each stamp with light diagonal crease, cover reduced slightly at top with small piece out, Very Fine appearance and scarce "From the Mails" carrier use, ex-Neinken, Wagshal; with 2011 P.F. certificate.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

The 1¢ paid for delivery to the street address in Philadelphia "from the mails".
