Portree, Isle of Syke, Scotland to Prince Edward Island, datelined folded letter with "Portree" straightline backstamp and manuscript "5/6½" due rating for 3s inland postage, 2s6d packet and ½ toll road tax, red Edinburgh (3.20) transit backstamp and "Addl. ½" Scottish toll road tax handstamp, carried by Brisers from Falmouth to Halifax, bold "Halifax, MY 11, 1831" fleuron and manuscript "6N2" conversion rating (5s6½d equiv.) plus "1N4" to P.E.I. totalled as "7N6" due; small edge nick, F.-V.F.

Wellesley Downes" and countersigned, entered mails with "Deal, OC 30, 1831" double-arc backstamp, red manuscript "Missent to" and blue "Newcastle-T, No 2 1831" cds, red London "Paid, 31 OC 1831" postmark and red manuscript "1" pence rating; cover torn and soiled, Fine.

Nova Scotia, 1831 (Dec. 10) London, England to St. Andrew's N.B., datelined folded letter with London (12.10) backstamp and manuscript "2/2" rating, "A" in circle handstamp applied in West India Room to divert the letter to American packets, carried by Opposum to Halifax, blurry "Halifax, FE 1, 1831" fleuron and manuscript "Packet 2N5" cy. equiv. rating plus "9" d.cy. inland postage totalled to "3N2" to St. John, then ms. "7" d.cy. rating to St. Andrew's totalled "3N9" final due, Very Fine.

Nova Scotia, 1831 (Dec. 26) Abaco, Bahamas to Kingston, Canada, datelined folded letter carried as ship letter to Liverpool, reverse with stepped "Liverpool / Ship Letter" framed handstamp and "2/11" rating for 2s2d packet plus 9d inland postage, carried by Frolic from Falmouth to Halifax, "Halifax, MR 31, 1831" fleuron with manuscript "Packet 3N3" cy. conversion rating (2s11d) plus "1N8" to Quebec totalled to "4N11", red "Quebec, MY 1, 1832" cds and "Forwarded" framed handstamp with "9" d.cy. to Kingston totalled to "5/8" due; small hole, slight edge toning, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

The red boxed "Forwarded" handstamp denotes not charged at Quebec but left to cash in Kingston.

Nova Scotia, 1834 (Jan. 24) Liverpool, England to Halifax N.S., datelined folded letter carried as endorsed by Mont Hope as ship letter to New York, entered mails with red "New-York Mar 15" cds and red manuscript "25" rating, indistinct "St. Andrews/ New Brunswick" two-line postmark hand dated "25th March 32" and with "P 1N3" cy. conversion (25¢) plus "9" d.cy.to St. John totalled to "2N" then "9" d.cy. to Halifax totalled to "2N9" and "1" d.cy. delivery fee totalled to "2N10" due, Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The unusual route selected for this cover was probably selected because "Thais" had returned to Falmouth in December 1833 and was never heard from again and in January 1834, "Lord Melville" also left Falmouth twice.

"26th Jany 1835" date, matching "Paid" in circle with manuscript "1N4" rating for double island postage, Halifax (2.12) transit cds, carried by Plover from Halifax to Falmouth, red London (3.13) arrival cds and manuscript "4/4" double packet letter rating, F.-V.F., ex-Salmon.
