1851, 24¢ Washington, by Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co., complete design proof and frame only progressive essay, compound dies in black, frame only, die on India, mounted on card (approximately 45x101mm), showing complete design as issued at top (37TC) and frame only progressive die below, engraver layout line visible around each die, reverse with pencil "From Jos. E. Ralph, J.M. Bartels", Very Fine, listed as a footnote in Scott catalog below 37-E2 but unpriced. Brazer No. 52E-A var.

THE UNIQUE COMPOUND DIE PROOF OF THE 1857 24¢ WASHINGTON COMPLETE DESIGN AND THE PROGRESSIVE FRAME ONLY.

Only two other examples of the frame only die essay are known (R.A. Siegel Lakeshore and Hulme sales). One these examples is of similar state as the example in this proof while the other example differs in the engraver layout lines and burnishing.

1860, 30¢ orange, neat 1860 Mobile, Ala. town and red New York transit cancel, choice centering amid wide margins, rich bright color, Extremely Fine and attractive; with 1984 P.F. and 2016 P.S.E. certificates, the latter Graded (XF 90, SMQ $1,200).

1860, 90¢ blue, full o.g., fairly light hinging, attractively centered amid wide margins, deep color on fresh bright paper, pulled perf at top right, Very Fine appearance; with 2002 & 2009 P.F. & 2017 P.S.E. certificates (prior to flaw).

1857-60 (1875 Reprint), 24¢ blackish violet, small die proof ("Panama-Pacific"), rich deep color, bright and fresh without the usual toning that often plagues these proofs, Extremely Fine, certainly one of the finest of only a small handful produced; with 2008 P.F. certificate.
