Switzerland, 1867-78, Sitting Helvetia, 25c blue green, horiz. pair, tied by Martigny 11.IX.73 postmarks on preprinted cover addressed to the United States, manuscript "Chamounix, Savoie, France, Sept. 10, 1873" at upper left, Very Fine and unusual. Zumstein No. 40.
Scott No. 55    Estimate $300 - 400.

"Chamounix" was the former spelling of Chamonix. This is the sender's manuscript origin notation or possibly a postal docketing with the cover carried to Martigny and placed in the Swiss Post Office. A fascinating cover.
