Wells, Fargo & Co., Walla Walla (W.T.), blue oval handstamp on 3¢ pink entire with black company frank to Dalles, Org with rare "Paid 25 Cts." printed surcharge at bottom left, slightly reduced at right & small cover stain, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Circa 1863 cover originating in Oregon or Idaho mines with Wells Fargo surcharge of 25 cents at lower-left. A small printing of this 25 cents charge was made - most show the surcharge under the frank. Less than 5 examples of this type are recorded. A Wells Fargo rarity.

Estimate    $300 - 400.

Rare use of the 25 cent reduced charge from mining areas after reduction of the 50 cent rate. Only three or four examples of this 25 cents surcharge at lower left of envelope are recorded.
