Ecuador, 1865, 1r Yellow Orange, Block of Sixteen, positions 1-8 / 10-17, worn 1872 printing, clear to large margins, canceled by manuscript cancels on judicial wrapper front and part back to Quito, with "Riobamba, 16 Nov" origin cds and manuscript "32 oz" weight notation; couple tears affecting a few stamps, otherwise Very Fine, a spectacular large multiple usage, ex-Longhi; with 2009 Moorhouse certificate.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r Yellow Buff, Horizontal Pair, ample to mostly large margins, tied by superb strike of red "Jipijapa" undated circular town handstamp on 1871 folded letter sheet to Valparaiso, Chile, carried at the single rate not exceeding ¼ oz. with involvement of PSNC carriage along the Pacific coast, from Guayaquil to Chile via Peru, Extremely Fine and choice, a magnificent and extremely rare usage from Jipijapa, ex-Bustamante, Longhi and Olgieser; with 2009 Moorhouse certificate.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r Ochre Yellow, Horizontal Strip of Four, clear to large margins, tied by two strikes of red "Guayaquil, Franca, 4 Ene, 73" cds's on double rate folded letter to Lima, Peru, reverse with receiving postmark and company origin handstamp; first and last stamp in strip with small flaws, still Very Fine, a beautiful double rate usage to Peru, ex-Goeggel.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r Yellow Bistre, Horizontal Pair, partially separated pair tied by manuscript flourishes & "Zozoranga" town cancel on 1869 Judicial cover to Loja, with manuscript "Con tres reales" endorsement and "1½" weight notation at top left, cover turned with reverse addressed to Cariamanga and franked with 1865, 1r yellow buff tied by "Loja, 19 Dec" cds, Very Fine, ex-Olgieser.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r Light Yellow Buff, Vertical Strip of Nine and Single, strip positions 14 / 23 / 32 / 41 / 50 / 59 / 68 / 77 / 86, margins full to just touching at upper left, all tied by "Alausí, 8 Sept 71" cds's and dotted lozenge handstamps on Judicial front to Riobamba, manuscript "19½ oz" weight notation at upper right, Very Fine, with this being the second largest strip known on cover, ex-Goeggel; with 2014 Moorhouse certificate.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r Yellow Buff, Horizontal Strip of Nine and Single, strip positions 19-27, all canceled by fancy "Chimbo" flower circular handstamps prior to being applied to Judicial front to Guaranda, positions 23-24 in strip also show portion of previous manuscript, manuscript "19½ oz" weight endorsement at top, F.-V.F., a rare Postal Fraud usage of the 1r yellow issue, one of two such first issue postal fraud usage known, ex-Saá and Longhi.

This cover was part of the Saá collection in Ecuador after its find in an Ecuadorian archive. It was subsequently sold to Florenzo Longhi in Italy.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r Yellow Buff, clear to large margins, tied by "Franca" in dotted lozenge handstamp of Guayaquil on private folded letter to Riobamba paying the up to ½ oz. domestic rate, with letter datelined "Guayaquil 27 de Set, 1871", Very Fine and choice, this is probably a unique single franking on private correspondence, ex-Saá and Olgieser.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r Yellow Buff, ample to large margins, just tied by dotted lozenge cancel on reduced Judicial front to Guaranda, matching "Ambato, 21 Sept" cds and boxed "De Oficio" handstamp denoting mail free of postage which was erroneously applied on this Judicial correspondence, Very Fine.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r Yellow Buff, tied by manuscript "Chim-bo" cancel on Judicial cover to Riobamba, reverse with pencil "Nov 1870" archive dating, Very Fine, this being one of three known covers bearing the Chimbo manuscript cancellation, ex-Saá.
Scott No. 4    Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

The Post Office at Chimbo was opened late in 1869 and soon after two similar fancy handstamps, also in 1869, came into use. Manuscript cancellations from Chimbo were extraordinary.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r Yellow Buff, Top Margin Vertical Strip of Nine and Single, strip positions 6//78 and showing rule line in sheet margin, all tied by dotted lozenge handstamps and "Loja, 30 Oct, 69" cds on Judicial wrapper to Cariamanga for parcel not exceeding 20 ounces; cover with few tears at top and toning at left slightly affecting bottom of strip, F.-V.F.
