New Zealand, 1864, Queen Victoria "Chalon Head", 1s yellow green, perf 12½, Large Star watermark, used with 6d brown (122a), each tied by numeral "18" barred oval, matching "Port Chalmers, Otago. N.Z., JU-9, 69" origin backstamp on cover to Glasgow, Scotland, red "Registered" double-arc datestamp, Glasgow (8.13) arrival backstamp; small edge nick at top, Very Fine and scarce registered use to Scotland. SG No. 125    Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.

Cover prepaid 1s 6d for one shilling registry fee and six pence per ½ oz. letter rate to the United Kingdom via Suez and Southampton. The registry fee was lower from 1s to 6d on January 12, 1870.

New Zealand, 1864, Queen Victoria "Chalon Head", 1s deep yellow green, perf 12½, Large Star watermark, used with 2d dull blue, plate 1 (113) pair and 6d red brown (122), all tied by "Otago" barred circle, matching "Dunedin, Otago, JU 18, 66" cds on light blue cover to London, England, endorsed "Via Marseilles" at top, red London Paid (8.18) arrival cds also ties 2d pair; partial flap and small edge tears at top, otherwise Very Fine and colorful three-color franking.
