Postal Card, 1902, 1¢ black on buff, the "full-face McKinley", used cancelled by "New York, N.Y. Sta. F, Sep 18, 1902" machine cancel with preprinted Messrs. Booth, Dailey & Ivins address and instructions to tug boat captain on back, the so-called "garbage card", reverse filled out in pencil dated "September 17" 1902, trivial corner wear, Very Fine with a clear machine cancel.

Postal Card, 1952, 2¢ black on glazed card, die essay, typographed large die essay on 134 x 70mm white faced glazed cardstock, die showing color dots in the four corners of the label, manuscript "Jun 28 - 1918" dating at lower left, light black pencil "Essay / No 2" on lower right, reverse with BEP blue "902519" control handstamp; some scuffing, Fine, ex-Horton. THE ONLY RECORDED DIE ESSAY FOR THE 1952 2¢ CARMINE POSTAL CARD.

This essay is dated 1918 because the 2¢ Lincoln card was prepared in 1918 to be using during the wartime 2¢ postage rate but was never issued due to low demand. It wasn't until 1952 when the domestic postage rate increased from 1¢ to 2¢ that the card was issued.
