1861, 1¢ blue, red white and blue patriotic label on light buff cover to Mark Abell, Co. B 2d Ohio Cavalry, Via Fort Scott Kansas bearing 1861, 1¢ blue, strip of three, each stamp canceled with three manuscript strokes, matching "Rockport O. June 25" postmark; couple short perfs, some edge wear, Very Fine, sold "as is" with regard to label.Scott No. 63 Estimate $300 - 400.
The Second Ohio Calvary was recruited during the summer of 1861 and mustered into three years of service at Camp Wade. It was then relocated to Camp Dennison where it received marching orders in January 1862. The 2nd Calvary was then moved to Platte City, MO before moving to Fort Scott, Kansas the following month. In Kansas, the Calvary was engaged in fighting Indians and Confederate guerrillas through the end of June 1862. The Calvary then went to Indian Territory before returning to Missouri and finally Ohio.
