Brazil, Accumulation, 1843-1930's, of stamps and covers in stockbook; stamps starting with first issue Bull's Eyes including 30r late impression, 60r x4 including pair tied on piece and 90r x5 including pair and lovely early impression, with additional later numerals */o including multiples, other later issues including a small used multiple hoard of the 1894-97 Liberty issue, covers with 1850 issues used in the 1860's, including mixed issue franking with 1866 issue, some nice 1860-70's covers including foreign destinations, later including illustrated gun cover, section of 1890 Southern Cross issues on cover, some interesting later, etc.; worth careful evaluation.

Lot 2267 /o/   

Brazil: Counani, Collection, of over 65 stamps and 8 cover and cards; includes the early negative print issues on colored paper as well as the later 1893 tete-beche sheets of 4, various stamp imprint "usages", etc.; nice group for the specialist.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Counani is a region somewhere between French Guyana and Brazil, the borders were not really established well in the 19th century between these two countries. A certain Jules Gros proclaimed himself president of the 'Republic of Independent Guyana'. This 'republic' was ended in 1877. However, in 1892 a new person, Adolphe Brezet, tried to establish a new republic, but he also failed to do so. Some 33 different stamps were issued from 1887 to 1893.
