Nevada City Cal., Mar 31, 1858, perfectly struck cds ties 10¢ green, type II (32) on cover to New York City, N.Y.; light corner stain, Very Fine and exceptional strike.

Lot 371    

Oakland, Cal., Mar 23 (Alameda), cds and 1861 3¢ rose (s.e. at right) with pen cancel on cover to a man in care of the Independent newspaper in Stockton, the man was evidently unknown so advertised in Stockton with "Advertised" straightline handstamp and "Mar 24" and "Apr 9" date handstamps, reduced at right, Fine and scarce (no photo).
Estimate    $75 - 100.

Petaluma, Cal., Dec 3 (Sonoma), cds tying 1857, 10¢ green, type III on cover artistically addressed in red to Conyersville, W. Tenn., with pointing hand at left of address and a facsimile drawing of a Petaluma postmark at upper left; stamp flaws at cover edge, otherwise Very Fine, very unusual.

Quartsburg, Cal. "Mar 14" (Mariposa), cds (MAR-1980) with manuscript date and and matching manuscript cancels on 3¢ dull red (11) strip of four, pos. 1-4R4, mostly large margins, on buff cover to Clinton N.Y.; some minor creasing affects couple stamps, fresh and Very Fine, a striking use.

(Rough & Ready) 1859 (Dec. 23) Sweetland, Cal. (Nevada), datelined receipt for mining claim reading in part, "…for a certain parcel of mining ground situated on Manzarita Hill and known as the claims of Bicknell & Co. and bounded by the Claims of Curtis the Rough & Ready and Joint Stock Claims, Sweetland Dec 23rd 1859…" and signed "Henry A. Brigham", Very Fine.
