1852 (Jul. 20) Bordeaux, France to New Orleans La., blue folded letter with bearing France 1f carmine, 40c orange, both four margins tied by "441" lozenge cancels, matching "Bordeaux, 20 Juil 52" origin cds and small red "PD" framed handstamp, carried by Cunard Line Niagara from Liverpool Jul. 24th to Boston arriving Aug. 5th, "Boston, Br. Pkt. '5' Aug 5" debit exchange cds, green "N.O.U.S. City Post" snow shovel and oval "CAR 2" handstamps, Very Fine and attractive New Orleans transatlantic carrier use.

1852 (Sep. 14) Boston, Mass. to Reims, France, blue folded letter with red "Paid" handstamp and pencil "5" rating, rare black "British / Packet" two-line handstamp, carried as endorsed by Cunard Line America from Boston Sep. 15th to Liverpool arriving Sep. 26th, red London (9.27) transit backstamp, red Paris (9.28) entry cds and black "13" décimes due handstamp, Reims (9.29) arrival backstamp, Very Fine and rare British Packet use, ex-Noel, Walske.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The "British / Packet" two-line handstamp was previously attributed to New York (Winter 345) used in September/October 1852.

1852 (Oct. 1) San Francisco Cal. to Bordeaux, France, blue folded letter with blue "San Francisco Cal. 1 Oct" cds and matching "Paid" and "26" rating handstamps, carried by Collins Line Baltic from New York Oct. 30th to Liverpool arriving Nov. 10th, red London (11.11) transit and red French (11.12) entry cds, French black "8" décimes due handstamp, reverse with Paris (11.12) and Bordeaux (11.13) arrival cds, Very Fine and earliest recorded strike of the rare blue "26" rating handstamp, ex-Winter.
Estimate    $250 - 350.

One of only four recorded San Francisco blue "26" rating handstamp usages, blue was used only from Oct. 1st to Nov. 16th 1852. Letter was carried from San Francisco by PMSSC "Tennessee" to Panama City, then by USMSSC "Georgia" from Aspinwall to New York.
