1858, 5¢ brick red, type I, vertical strip of three, scissor trimmed perfs as typically seen from New Orleans, bright color, tied by "New Orleans, La., Apr 4, 1859" cds's on cover to Saintes, France, red "New York, Paid 12, Apr 13" exchange cds and French transit and receiving backstamps; cover cleaned, rebacked with stamps placed back having small flaws, F.-V.F. appearance, still the 5¢ brick red in a strip of three catalogs $6,000 off cover; with photocopy of 1989 P.S.E. certificate.

1857, 5¢ red brown, type I, in combination with 1857, 10¢ green, type II, horizontal strip of three + 10¢ green, type III on folded letter sheet to Nantes, France, all tied by "New Orleans, La., Apr 12, 1858" cds's, red "Boston, Paid 12, Apr 21" exchange cds and reverse with French transit and receiving cds's; 5¢ with minor gum stain at bottom, still Very Fine, an attractive combination and triple 15¢ rate usage.

1857, 10¢ green, type I, horizontal strip of three, rich color, manuscript canceled on cover to Wurttemberg, Germany, matching "Waterville, O., May 30th" origin postmark at left, endorsed "per Prussian closed mail" with red "N. York, Am. Pkt., Paid 7, Jun 4" exchange cds tying strip and red boxed Aachen date stamp, reverse with transit postmark and docketed "Mr Adam Utz, Grissly Bear House, Placer Co., Kalifornia, North America" which the letter initially originated; right stamp with some clipped perfs at bottom and a few toned perf tips at top, Very Fine appearance, a rare usage of the 1857 10¢ type I issue to Germany.

1859, 10¢ green, type V, pair, used with 1¢ blue (24), all tied by red open grid cancels, magenta manuscript "Clifton Ill, Oct 3/61" postmark and "PD" framed imitation, red "New York 'Paid 18' Oct 9" exchange cds, carried by Cunard Persia from New York Oct. 9th to Queenstown arriving Oct. 19th, French (10.21.61) transit cds and matching framed "P.D." handstamp, Eghezee (10.23) arrival backstamp; no flap, some minor wear and small stamp flaws, F.-V.F. use prepaid at the 21¢ French mail rate, ex-Richardson.
