Fort Halleck, Neb. T., circular postmark without date tying 1861, 3¢ rose on cover to Watervleit, Mich., dated "Sept 5 - 1865" in pencil; cover slightly reduced at left, Very Fine.

The Fort Halleck Post Office operated in what is now Wyoming from 1863 to 1866 only.

Fort Kearny, Oct 10, manuscript postmark with matching "5" rate on folded letter sheet to Salt Lake, Utah "to the care of Gov Young", partial letter with some interesting content…"within ten days travel of Kanesville without molestation or troubles, altho we have met several bands of Indians from time to time. They have been kind and civil.", also sends his regards to Br. Young, Very Fine.

Fort Kearney, N.T., Jun 12, cds and "Missent & Ford" manuscript notation on cover to Fort Learing, Nebraska Territory, "Woodstock, Vt, Jun 2, 1862" blue origin cds and matching grid handstamp canceling 1861, 3¢ rose, finally delivered with Fort Laramie, N T, Nov 7 cds on reverse, Very Fine, a scarce missent and forwarded use between two forts that were both in Nebraska Territory at the time., ex-Beals, Rosenthal.

Fort Laramie, N T, Jun 14, clear balloon cds in blue on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire (Nesbitt backflap seal) to Delhi, N.Y., with "via N.Y. City" sender's directive; a few stains, F.-V.F., an early use of this postmark type.

The Fort Laramie Post Office was the first Post Office in what is now Wyoming. The Post Office was established in 1850 in unorganized territory and assigned for administrative purposes to Oregon Territory until Nebraska Territory was created in 1854.

Lot 110    

Fort Laramie, N T, Jul 1, balloon cds on cover to Newton, Iowa, original stamp excised and 1861 3¢ rose with target killer added, with original letter from a man to his sister datelined "Ft Laramie Idaho Ter, Jun 28th 1864," with interesting content…There is a heavy emigration on the road mostly for Idaho, I do not anticipate any trouble from the Indians although they are pretty saucy and have committed some depredations along the roadWrite to me at Virginia City, Idaho., Very Fine appearance; with 2010 P.F. certificate.

The Fort Laramie Post Office was transferred from Nebraska Territory to the original Idaho Territory when the latter was created in 1863. The Post Office continued to use "Nebraska" postmarks while in Idaho Territory.

Lot 111    

Fort Randall, N T, Feby 28, 1861, bold manuscript postmark on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Saint Louis, Missouri, "Recd. Mar. 10 / 61" docket; light toning at left, Very Fine.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The Fort Randall Post Office was established in Nebraska Territory in 1860. The Post Office was transferred to the original Dakota Territory when the latter was created in 1861. This cover was postmarked just two days prior to the change.
