(Campaign - 1856) John Fremont, portrait design in oval on yellow cover bearing 3¢ dull red (11A), three margins, rich color, tiny corner crease, tied by "Springfield Ms., Nov 10" cds to Old Saybrook Conn., matching illustrated enclosure datelined "Springfield Nov. 9th 1856"; filing holes and reduced slightly at left, Very Fine and lovely Fremont campaign cover.
Milgram No. JF-6 var.    Estimate $200 - 300.

Fremont was a founding member of the Republican Party and in 1856 was chosen as its first presidential candidate, although the Democratic Party candidate, James Buchanan, won. This design differs slightly from the Milgram JF-6 design illustrated in the Milgram book.

(Campaign - 1860 Campaign) Lincoln - Hamlin, fancy framed dual portrait design on small cover bearing 3¢ dull red (26), perf flaw, tied by circular grid cancel, matching partial "Rutland Ms., Mar 15" cds to Barre Mass., matching dual portrait letterhead datelined "North Rutland, Mar. 14/61", Very Fine and scarce with matching enclosure.

(Campaign - 1860) Lincoln - Hamlin, Abraham Lincoln, portrait in ornamented frame of flags and eagle with Lincoln and Hamlin names in shield, separate railsplitter design with caption below, on yellow cover bearing 3¢ dull red (26) tied by "Buckfield Me., Nov 15" cds to Turner Me., original letter datelined "Hartford Nov 10, 1860" with related content "…I went four weeks ago to visit my mother, Nemiah, Rachel, and Emery and stayed till Lincoln was elected President of the U.S. I heard the glorious news Wed. morning. I had a fine visit, saw many of my scholars…"; cover reduced at left, 3¢ corner flaw, F.-V.F. and scarce. Milgram No. AL-89.
