City of New York", Havana (5.4) arrival backstamp and bold "2" reales due handstamp, blue "S. AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE BANK NOTE ISSUE USE TO TAMATAVE, MADAGASCAR.

There are only four recorded Bank Note usages to Madagascar, which are the earliest examples of United States mail to this remote destination. They comprise:
1. 1877 Nov. 6, Dobbs Ferry N.Y. to Tamatave, ex-Vogel
2. 1878 Jul. 11, Unadilla N.Y. to Tamatave, ex-M. Brown
3. 1883 May 11, Dobbs Ferry N.Y. to Tamatave, the cover offered here.
4. 1883 Jul. 6, New York N.Y. to Tamatave, ex-Gallagher, Gabriel.
