Co., Vallejo, Apr. 25, 1867" circular date stamp cancels, large margins to just in at sides, beautiful rich deep colors, two light creases from document (vertical at left, horizontal between blocks), Very Fine, ex-Joyce, Mayer and Curtis; with 2020 P.S.E. certificate.

ONE OF THREE COMPLETE SHEETS OF THE 1864 $200 U.S.I.R. IMPERFORATE ISSUE AND THE ONLY EXAMPLE BEARING HANDSTAMP CANCELS.

All three recorded sheets have similar trimmed margins. The three sheets are: 1) manuscript cancels, used in "Chicago & Great Eastern Railway, New York, May 11, 1865", ex-Zoellner (Siegel Sale 827, lot 1572, realized $24,000 hammer); 2) manuscript "Chicago & Great Eastern Railway, New York, May 11, 1865" cancels, faint horizontal crease, ex-Cunliffe (Spink-Shreves Sale June 26, 2008, lot 298, realized $23,000 hammer; and 3) "Cal. P.R.R. Co." circular datestamp, two light creases, ex-Joyce, Mayer and Curtis, the example offered here (Siegel Sale 1089, lot 385, realized $25,000 hammer).

Co., June 1, 1871" cancels, rich colors, light creases and sensibly hinged reinforced at top & bottom (P.S.E. cert. states, "rejoined with light wrinkles", however we disagree, as did the Spink-Shreves auction (Sale #103) where it was described as "minor perf. reinforcing", when the Cunliffe collection was sold), Fine appearance, ex-Little and Cunliffe; with 2020 P.S.E. certificate.

ONE OF SEVEN RECORDED COMPLETE SHEETS OF THE 1864 $200 U.S.I.R. PERFORATED ISSUE.

Accompanied by a 1945 letters to and from philatelic dealer M.J. Fenster and Phillip Little inquiring as to the history of the sheet as Mr. Little fears it maybe part of the stolen Tuttle Collection. This complete sheet originated on a 1871 Mortgage Deed for $18,811,000.00 that contained 93 copies. Of the 93 copies, this was the only intact sheet.
