New Zealand, 1862, Queen Victoria "Chalon Head", 3d brown lilac, imperf, Large Star watermark, horizontal pair with three large margins, barely touched at top left, tied by numeral "9" barred ovals, matching "New Plymouth N.Z., AU 9, 64" origin backstamp on blue cover front with bottom flap only to London, England, red London Paid (10.20) arrival cds; pair lifted and replaced improperly, F.-V.F., a scarce franking for the 6d rate to the U.K. via Suez and Southampton. New Zealand, 1862, Queen Victoria "Chalon Head", 6d red brown, imperf, Re-Entry (Pos. R. 17/3), Large Star watermark, full to large margins, bright color and sharp impression on soft paper, sharp numeral "1" barred oval of Auckland, fresh and Very Fine.
SG No. 42    £140 for normal ($180).

This is a double re-entry with the faulty impression of Row 16 No. 3 seen faintly at the top of the stamp extending down 1.25mm, especially in the letters ZEAL. The re-entry proper is 0.1mm to the right and 0.1mm low, with doubling of the right margin of N of NEW and parts of D of ZEALAND, the Queen's nose and of the portrait circle at lower right. These feature are still clear in the 1871 printings in blue.

York, Pkt. '5' Jun 3" integral due cds; roughly opened at right, one 2d corner nick and right 6d faulty, Fine and rare franking for the 1s5d via Marseilles rate for a ¼ oz. letter to the United States. Scott No. 14e. Campbell Paterson No. A5b (3).
