Russ Naragan enlisted on June 19th 1861 as Private mustering into Company "I" of the Ohio 13th Infantry. He transferred into the U.S. Army Cavalry on December 12, 1862.

Feb 19" cds to Riverhead L.I., N.Y., with an equally spectacular hand colored Mansell patriotic Valentine with second central Soldier design under opening flaps of Flag Draped Tent, signed by Private Charles Lane; faults, Fine and scarce.Estimate $400 - 600.
Charles H. Lane was a Private in Company K of the 127th New York Infantry. He enlisted on August 25th, 1862 at Riverhead N.Y. at the age of 21 and served the rest of the war.

There was a large force seen the other day on the other side but don't know whether they are friends or enemies … Stonewall Jackson is on the travel, on the travel, Stonewall Jackson is on the travel down in the Dixie Land, Hurra, Hurra, away down South in Dixie, Hurra … Then the 10th Vermont will begin to travel, begin to travel, begin to travel, and old Lee and Jackson must skedaddle, down in Dixie Land, Hurra down South in Dixie, Hurra.", accompanied by photocopy of 1863 letter signed by Austin Fenn proving authorship; some staining and file fold wear, nick bottom left, Fine and rare patriotic envelope.Estimate $300 - 400.
