Danish West Indies, 1787 (Apr. 4) St. Croix, D.W.I. to Philadelphia Pa., folded letter datelined "St. Croix 4 April 1787" with some interesting content "…requesting the Particulars of the purchase of a Negro Man of Capt. John Earl…", entered U.S. Mails with Philadelphia "11 MA" Franklin mark.

Danish West Indies, 1808 (Jul. 14) St. Croix, D.W.I. to London, England, forwarded to Aberdeen, folded letter datelined "St. Croix, 14th July 1808" and bearing "PACKET - LETTER" straightline and manuscript "2/-" schilling due rating (both crossed out when forwarded), red London (8.24) arrival backstamp, forwarded with London (8.24) backstamp and ms. "1/2" due rating to Aberdeen, Scotland, Very Fine and scarce unframed "Packet Letter" use.

Danish West Indies, 1810 (Jan. 26) St. Bartholomew to Guernsey via St. Thomas, docketed folded cover with light "St. Thomas" large fleuron datestamp, upon arrival in Falmouth blue Leeward Island, F, 3 AP 3, 1810" rimless entry cds struck, manuscript "4/2" due rating, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

THE ONLY RECORDED USE WITH BOTH THE ST. THOMAS FLEURON AND LEEWARD ISLAND MARKINGS.

One of only four recorded example of the Falmouth "Leeward Island, F" entry marking struck in blue, all are recorded on Apr. 3, 1810.

Danish West Indies, 1851-64, Ship Letters from St. Thomas to New York N.Y., group of four comprising 1851 with "Savannah Geo." cds and "Ship" "5" ratings; 1855 with "Foreign Letter Office" backstamp and Boston "Ship" and "7" ratings; 1861 with Philadelphia cds and "Ship" "5" ratings; and 1864 with red "Boston, Mass." cds and "Ship" handstamp with blue crayon "18" for triple the 6¢ rate, Very Fine ship letter group.

"19/11/52" dating, endorsed "p Govr. Oxholm", entered mails with blue "Philadelphia Pa. Dec 7" cds and matching "Ship" straightline with "7" in circle rating handstamp, F.-V.F. and scarce St. Thomas combination forwarding.

Danish West Indies, 1856 (Nov. 16) St. Thomas, D.W.I. to Copenhagen, Denmark, blue folded letter with "St-Thomas, NO 16, 1856" double-arc backstamp and red "Paid at St. Thomas" crownmark with red manuscript "1/4½" prepaid rating, endorsed "p Steamer Atrato", red London "Paid" (12.1) and matching "P." oval handstamp, K.D.O.P.A. Hamburg (12.4) transit backstamp with "franco" script handstamp and "2" credit, manuscript "380 - 90" marking, Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

In 1856, there were Post Offices of 6 foreign states in the Free City of Hamburg, one being the Danish (K.D.O.P.A.) that managed the postal traffic between Hamburg and Denmark.
