Mexico, 1868, Hidalgo (thick figures, imperf), 6c black, die proof on thick wove, stamp size with clear to ample margins, with "6c" denomination entered by hand, couple thins, otherwise Very Fine, a unique proof last in the market in early 1990's.

Mexico, 1868, Hidalgo (thick figures, imperf), 6c black on buff, Chihuahua, cons 21-71, tied by Santa Rosalia oval handstamp (Schatzkes 168) on folded letter sheet paying the rare printed matter rate; file fold affecting stamp, F.-V.F.

Lot 474    

Mexico, 1868, Hidalgo (thick figures, imperf), 6c black on buff, Matamoros, horizontal pair, in combination with 1868, 12c black on green, Matamoros, both cons 9-71, and additional 1868, 12¢ black on green, Tampico, cons 39-71 cut from an uncanceled letter, on July 1872 folded letter from Matamoros to Guanajuanto, carried privately by agent Enrique Duprat of Tula de Tamaulipas with oval handstamp on reverse, entered the mails in San Luis Potosi with 1872, 12c blue + 25c red, San Luis Potosi, cons 37-72 affixed and all stamps canceled by fancy "Franco" handstamps (Schatzkes 1461), Very Fine, a unique unaccepted demonetized and postal fraud usage bearing stamps from three different districts, ex-Rosenthal; signed Lamy, Goebel and Calves, with 1987 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

This cover not only was sent 3 months after the 1868 Full Face Hidalgo issue was demonetized, but was initially franked with stamps from two different districts.

Mexico, 1868, Hidalgo (thick figures, imperf), 12c black on green, Matamoros, horizontal strip of five, cons 9-69, position 1 with error "3" for "9", tied by fancy eye in circle handstamp (Schatzkes unlisted) on folded letter sheet to Zacatecas, Very Fine; with 2002 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

Fr., 17 Fevr, 72" octagon date stamp, with Italy Postage Due 1l two singles + 10c pair canceled by Genova cds's; cover slightly reduced at right, Very Fine, illustrated in Mexican Maritime Mail, ex-Warham.

Mexico, 1868, Hidalgo (thick figures, imperf), 50c black on yellow, Victoria, horizontal strip of three, in combination with 1868, 25c blue, Victoria, both cons 29-70, on registered full folded letter from Jimenez to Matamoros, canceled by "Franco" handstamp (Schatzkes 1831A) and tied by mute handstamp with additional at edges; some cover edge wear, otherwise Very Fine, this cover paid the high rate of $1.75 pesos.
