U.S. Mail Packet Steamer Lizzie Simmons, four-line handstamp on 3¢ red (U10) buff Nesbitt entire to New Orleans La., endorsed "Str Lizzie Simmons" at lower left, Very Fine, ex-Milgram (J.W.M.).
Milgram No. 802    Estimate $200 - 300.

The "Lizzie Simons" was built in 1859 and ran the Ouachita River trade and clearly had, on occasions, single trip contracts on Route 8285.

Louisiana, boxed red handstamp on May 7th 1849 blue folded letter from St. Louis Mo. to New Orleans La., endorsed "B/L" bill of lading and "p Louisiana" at lower left, Very Fine and rare, an exceptional strike of this rare steamboat handstamp, ex-Milgram (J.W.M.).

Str. Mary Foley, red fancy oval handstamp and additional red "Paid F.A. Dentzel Agt. P.O. N.O." oval handstamp on gray folded letter to New Orleans La.; cover faulty and repaired, rare and Fine appearance.

The amount of postage is not stated on many of these covers that only bear Dentzel markings. He probably acted as a forwarding agent for letters that were not charged postage by the New Orleans post office.

Ship Milo, clear strike of blue "Ship Milo, S.G. Bronson, Sail'd Aug 1"" dotted cds on folded letter datelined "Lpl 20 Feby. 1818" to Montreal, Canada, entered mails with red "Boston Ms. Apr 23" cds and matching "Ship" handstamp with "20¾" rating, manuscript "2d" upper left, Canadian red manuscript "1N10" due rating, Very Fine.

A CHOICE EXAMPLE OF THE RARE SHIP MILO NAME-OF-BOAT MARKING.

The "Milo" was a sailing vessel that used Boston as her home port. S.C. Bronson was her master. On March 27, 1818, she brought 2,500 letters out of Liverpool arriving at Boston on April 23. The blue marking on this cover is only known with this particular date. This particular cover was charged a two cent ship fee and 18lh cents postage to the Canadian border with manuscript 1 shilling 10 pence due at Montreal.

Montezuma, brown straight-line handstamp, brownish straightline handstamp on Oct. 19th 1824 folded letter from Philadelphia Pa. to Liverpool, England, endorsed "Montezuma" at bottom left, carried by Cope Line Montezuma from Philadelphia to Liverpool, Very Fine and rare, One of only three recorded Cope Line "Montezuma" straightline name-of-boat handstamps.
