N.O. & Vicksburg Packet Natchez, printed corner card on 3¢ pink (U58) entire with blue "Packet Natchez, Jan 19, 1870" oval (Milgram 964) from the Hoy & Co. correspondence to New Orleans La., Very Fine.
Milgram No. 965    Estimate $200 - 300.

The 1870 markings of the "Natchez" are for a vessel built in 1869. This is the famous boat that raced the "Robert E. Lee" in 1870.

From Steamer Natchez No. 2, red oval handstamp on blue Jul. 21st 1851 folded letter from Rodney Miss. to New Orleans La., entered mails with red "New Orleans La., Jul 25" cds and matching "Way 6" rating handstamp, Very Fine.
Milgram No. 969    Estimate $300 - 400.

The "Natchez No. 2" was owned by Thomas Leathers and was possibly running Route 6003 contracted by the single trip at 2¢ a letter carried.

New Deer, straightline handstamp on 1843 transatlantic folded letter from Gilkhorn, Scotland to Detroit Mich., red "Aberdeen, Paid, 1 OC 1, 1843" framed postmark and manuscript "Paid 1/2" rating, red Edinburgh "Paid" (10.2) cds, Liverpool (10.3) transit oval backstamp, red Boston "Ship" (10.19) cds and manuscript "27" due rating for 25¢ due rate plus 2¢ ship letter, Very Fine strike.

A CHOICE EXAMPLE OF THIS FANCY STEAMER NEW ERA HANDSTAMP.

The "New Era" of 259 tons was built at New Albany Ind. in 1860 and sold to the Red River Packet Company in 1865, and then to Joshua Fenimore in November 1865.
