Savage Repeating Rifle "303". Illustrated design in red & blue on 1898 cover showing Indian in Headdress, caption reads "A white man's rifle with a red man's name", franked with 2¢ Trans-Miss. issue tied by San Francisco, Ca. machine cancel, printed text advertising on reverse, which appears to be a type written note to Baker & Hamilton (senders of this cover) which is datelined "Klamath Agency, Or., Oct. 30th, 1897" and reads, "Gentlemen:--I have owned and hunted with a 40/70 Sharps', 38/55 Ballard, 40/65 Winchester and 40/70 Winchester Rifles and now own a 'Savage' which just suits me. It is by far the best gun that I have ever used.", small unnoticeable cover tear just affecting adhesive, Very Fine and rare, ex-Beals.
