(Mining) 1848 Government Report Gold Rush Discovery Maps. 2 maps, dated 1848, with detailed sketches of gold country; one of "Positions of the Upper and Lower Gold Mines on the South Fork of the American River, California"; the other titled "Gold & Quicksilver District of California, July 25th 1848" showing San Francisco Bay Area to Sierra Nevada (or "Snowy Mountains") showing where gold had been discovered; both maps in fair condition; both maps intended to accompany report to Congress; quite rare items (no photo).
