1852, 1¢ blue, type IV, Unofficial "Chicago" Perf 12½. Position 49L1L, light Chicago town cancel, rich color, natural inclusion at left and negligible corner margin crease at top right, Very Fine appearance, with 1973 and 2005 P.F. certificates.

The distinctive 12½ gauge Chicago Perf was applied to sheets of the 1¢ (Plates 1 Late and 2) and 1851, 3¢ issue, the former being considerably rarer. According to the updated census of Chicago Perf items compiled by W. Wilson Hulme II (Chronicle 175, Aug. 1997), approximately 18 examples of the 1¢ Chicago Perf have been recorded, including four used on covers. This Type IV with only a tiny corner crease is one of the finest of all known 1¢ Chicago Perf stamps (Type II or IV).
