Kidron Ark Ter., Jan 9 (Indian Territory). Manuscript postmark with "25" rate on ca. 1835 folded letter sheet addressed to John Ross (Cherokee Chief) in Washington City; some minor toning, F.-V.F., a very scarce Cherokee Nation postmark.

John Ross, also known as Guwisguwi, was Principal Chief of the Cherokee Native American Nation from 1828-1866. Described by European Americans as the Moses of his people, Ross led the Nation through tumultuous years of development, relocation to Oklahoma, and the American Civil War.
