1847 New Orleans, La, To Bordeaux, France. Folded letter sheet with blue "New Orleans, La., Sep 5" origin cds and matching straight line "Paid" and "10" rate handstamp for a half ounce in the over 300 miles postal zone, "25" decimes due the addressee in France (10 decimes due G.B., 15 decimes for 7.5 - 10 grams over 600 kilometers), F.-V.F., originally requested Hérout & de Handel steamer New York but evidently arrived too late for this sailing.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Sent via Cunard Line - per the steamer Caledonia, departing Boston on September 16th and arriving in Liverpool on September 29th.
