1876-S $10 Liberty. PCGS graded VF-35. All three mints then in operation struck Eagles in 1876, but only in very small quantities. The combined production of the denomination at Philadelphia, Carson City, and San Francisco barely exceeded 10,000 pieces. About half of these coins were from San Francisco, but the mintage of 5,000 pieces was not saved, and not a single example has been certified in Mint State by either NGC or PCGS.The surviving population is estimated at 80 to 100 examples. (PCGS Pop. 8 in VF-35, only 43 graded higher, the highest grade is four AU-53 examples. Total of 58 in all grades, 9/24/11).
