Celebrated as the first-date-of-issue D-mint gold dollar, the 1849-D had a relatively large mintage of 21,588 pieces.An estimated 250-300+ examples are known today in all grades, with 85-95 specimens in AU. (PCGS Pop. 37 in AU-58, only 44 graded higher with the highest graded being three MS-64 examples. A total of 239 in all grades, 11/2/11.).
