1856-C $5 Liberty. PCGS graded EF-45. From a mintage of just 28,457 pieces, the 1856-C half eagle is an underrated date in the series. It is estimated that the surviving population is 150-200 examples in all grades, with 60-80 specimens extant in XF. (PCGS Pop. 24 in EF-45, only 47 graded higher, the highest grade being a single MS-63 example. Total of 105 in all grades, 9/24/11).Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.
