George Francis Train was an American entrepreneur who organized many western transit lines including a clipper ship line that sailed around Cape Horn to San Francisco, the Union Pacific Railroad and instrumental in construction the western portion of the Transcontinental Railroad. In 1872 he ran for President of the United States as an independent candidate. He was a staunch supporter of the temperance movement.
