Jan 20, rimless cds ties two 1862, 5¢ blue singles, mostly four margins, on orange buff cover to Ala., "Austin Tex Jul 8 1862" cds and matching "MISSENT" straightline handstamp (CSA type D), pencil "recd Aug 5/64"; two large cover tears and flap replaced, F.-V.F. appearance. Estimate $400 - 600.
Since docketed as received in 1864,with the fall of Vicksburg and the disruption of the west to east mails, it is possible that the letter did not reach its destination until that date.
