Mordecai, James Island, South Carolina", manuscript "1/1/65" date docketing at top left; right stamp with corner scuff which is mostly covered by postmark (likely scuffed by date stamp device when postmark was applied), otherwise Extremely Fine, ex MacBride, Hart and Birkinbine; with 2011 P.F. certificate. Capt. J.R. Mordecai was Quartermaster of the Siege Train Special Forces stationed on James Island. The "Siege Train" was an artillery brigade attempting to break the Union's hold on Charleston Harbor.
