Confederacy, Camp Chase, Columbus, Oh., 31mm cds on 3¢ pink entire (U35) cancelled by prison bar grid addressed to New York City, soldier's endorsement "From F.W. Keyes, 20th Miss. Regt., Prisoner of War", examiner's manuscript marking "Examined A.S. Ballard, Major 74th Reg't OV, Camp Chase" at left; flap torn, Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Prisoner of War Keyes was captured at Fort Donelson Tenn. in mid-1862 by Union forces led by Grant. Camp Chase was named for Salmon P. Chase, a former Ohio Governor and Lincoln's Sec. of Treasury.
