Another on cover example of this fancy cancel dated Oct. 13th was recently offered by Siegel, but it had an inferior strike and realized $3,105. Oil City was one of the petroleum boomtowns that thrived after Col. Drake drilled the first commercially successful well in nearby Titusville on August 27, 1859.
