AN EXTREMELY RARE RAILROAD POSTMARK USED ONLY FOR THIS SPECIAL TRANSCONTINENTAL TRIP.

This special theatrical train, which left New York on June 1, 1876 at 12:40 a.m., set the original transcontinental speed record of 84 hours for the 3313 mile trip of San Francisco. There are two types of cancellers recorded used with this cds dial, there is a horizontally orientated oval and the vertically orientated oval offered here. There are both extremely rare with less than 6 examples recorded.
