ONE OF ONLY FOUR RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE MONTGOMERY 10¢ BLACK TYPE 3 PROVISIONAL ENTIRE.
Even though cover has a charge box notation, the ink in the provisional circular handstamp is distinctly different than the Montgomery cds, which was applied later at the time of sending. The addressee, Dr. Reuben Henry Duggar (1837-1921) of Marengo Co. Ala. served in the Alabama Hospital Service during the War. The hospital service disbanded at Talladega Ala. in April 1865.
