(Letter Books) Cooke & Le Count's California Letter Book, bronze on black glazed letterbook with printed 1851 calendar on inside back cover, with lengthy letter datelined "Weavertown (Weaverville), Sept 19th, 52" having returned from Shasta City, mentions sending money and packages by Adams & Co. Express…from the prompt business for which Adams & Co. have gained quite a reputation I feel confident that you have received the packages., sending money for recipient to come to California…if report states that there is no sickness on the route , mentions receiving letter which was hard to read being soaked in salt (ocean) water, when writing to a friend…state in your letter that Mrs Coats will not receive a letter from her husband by this mail for the reason that James her husband is in Shasta Valley attending to the business of his brother who was killed a few days since by the indians; some usual cover wear, Very Fine for this, ex Clifford.
