Auxiliary Markings

Lot 221

Late Letter Mail, Honolulu, Oct 2, 1886, supplementary mail postmark (MH unrecorded, 1RRR) on cover to Chicago, Ill., franked with 1882, 5¢ ultramarine + 1883, 1¢ green + 1886, 2¢ rose, horizontal pair and tied by target handstamps, S.F. transit and receiving backstamps; 5¢ with a few small perf flaws, still Very Fine.
Scott No. 39+42+43    Estimate $2,000 - 3,000.

A VERY RARE USAGE OF THE HONOLULU LATE LETTER MAIL SUPPLEMENTARY MAIL POSTMARK.

This mark reflects payment of an extra fee of 5¢, after the posted closing time for a mail shipment, to have their letters included in the mail. This marking is known to be used between June 15, 1885 and September 1, 1886 and appears to be much rarer than it's earlier counterpart without town and date.

Realized: $1,350
