Wilder, Humane Officer, Honolulu, H.I., three line imprint with illustrated design of an angel protecting a horse from a man who is beating it to encourage it to carry a wagon load of goods, bearing 1¢ dark green (80) and 2¢ rose (81) pair, tied by two strikes of "Honolulu H.I. Dec 27, 1899" duplex to San Francisco Cal., reverse with Jan. 10th machine arrival, upper left corner clipped for fumigation; small stain spot and cover tear, F.-V.F., ex-Pietsch.

Helen K. Wilder became an authorized Humane Officer in 1897. Bubonic plague swept through Honolulu and other parts of the Islands for several months and Honolulu was quarantined starting December 12, 1899 and finally ending April 30, 1900.
