King Kalakaua, Autograph Letter Signed "Kalakaua" datelined Honolulu December 11, 1884 to R.M. Fuller, Harbour Master reading in part "The bearer of this note is Kaaahu (io) and is the wife of one John Adams Kamauna alias Keoni Ailama, and is reported to have died in the Hospital at San Francisco after his last season from Whaling, North, and is said to have possessed of property or monies, the proceeds of the catch of the season. The object of writing you this note, is for the relief of the widow and to save the trouble of unnecessary cost, which such cases after entails in the identification of the proper heirs to the estate of deceased person dying abroad, before the Courts of this Kingdom. My personal knowledge of this woman is that she is the married wife of John Adams Kamauna, having lived with my parents when young and an attendant nurse. She has been married to three husbands. The first Naalele, the Second Poka and the third John Adams Kamauna alias Keoni Ailama married in 1856 by the Reverend Lowell Smith… Will you therefore be kind enough to attend to this matter and direct her the proper course to pursue so that she may be able to procure her rights in the property of her husband…Yours Truly, Kalakaua"; accompanied by photo of the King, Very Fine.
