1840 (Feb. 10) Clarendon, Lower Canada to New Castleton, Scotland, folded letter with "Clarendon L.C." and manuscript "19th Feby 40" dating, magenta ink "USP 18¾" and "Ship 12½," total "paid 31½" in the upper right corner along with "9" under the "Paid."; indicating 9dcy Canadian postage, 18¾¢ for the U.S. postage to N.Y. and 12½¢ for the sailing ship freight money fee, carried by Black Ball Line England from New York on Feb. 25 to Liverpool arriving Mar. 17, "Liverpool/Ship Letter" backstamp with black "8" pence due rating for uniform ship letter rate, some edge flaws, F.-V.F., The only recorded freight money cover from Clarendon, Canada. ex-Winter.

Black Ball Line "England" had to wait at anchor for favorable winds and sailed a couple of days late.
