1855 (May 30) Harvard Mass. to Jaffa, Syria (Turkish Empire), orange buff cover with manuscript "Harvard Ms., My 21" postmark and matching "Paid 45" cent rating, red "Returned for Postage" two-line handstamp and magenta "Due 26" rating totaled to "71" prepaid rating, partial red "New York, Am. Packet, May 30" exchange backstamp and magenta "50" cent credit rating, carried by Collins Line Baltic from New York May 30th to Liverpool arriving Jun. 10th, red London Paid (6.11) and matching oval "PD" handstamp, Alexandria (6.28) transit backstamp; no flap, edge wear, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

THE ONLY RECORDED COVER SENT AT THE 71¢ BRITISH MAIL RATE VIA MARSEILLES TO THE TURKISH EMPIRE.

This cover was originally prepaid 45¢, it was returned for postage and sent at the 71¢ British Mail rate via Marseilles to the Turkish Empire.
